Ethics & Safeguarding: Independent Sports Mentoring

At Parallax Support, the mentoring space is built on a foundation of psychological safety, shared purpose, and deliberate practice. To ensure this work is executed safely and effectively, this practice operates in alignment with the UK Coaching Code of Practice and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) Global Code of Ethics. The code allows both parties to know their role and contribute to the process.

Rights & Respect

I value individuals, cultures, and perspectives, and I am committed to responding in ways that honour human dignity. The core objective of this practice is to help athletes and coaches grow through each interaction, navigating clients through complex seasons of change, deselection, and athletic transition. I approach every session with an open mind, recognising that each interaction possesses a unique identity and richness. Those of LGBTQIA+ orientation, those who belong to the global majority, and those who do not fit with the conventional view of gender, are welcome here.

Please note: I do not work with minors directly, though I do work with parents who are supporting their young athletes.

Relationships & Integrity

Providing an "eye of the storm" requires sharing, which requires bravery and trust. To help, I maintain the strictest level of confidentiality with all client and sponsor information, securely storing all data and digital files to ensure maximum privacy. Because Parallax provides entirely independent support, I actively separate professional mentoring engagements from other forms of relationships to prevent any conflict of interest. If I feel there is a conflict, I will highlight this and allow you the choice on whether to continue our engagement. I will share information with relevant resources if I believe your own - or another’s - safety to be in danger. I respect the distinct boundaries of my profession; this practice focuses on environment design and transition mentoring, and it is explicitly not counselling, psychotherapy, or medical intervention.

Professional Standards & Competence

I operate within the limits of my professional competence and qualifications. If an athlete or coach requires clinical or specialised support outside of my scope, I will actively refer the client to a suitably qualified practitioner, such as a licensed sport psychologist. To ensure the highest standard of practice, I engage in ongoing professional supervision to continuously evaluate and refine the quality of the mentoring space.

Personal Standards & Responsibility

I support coaching and mentoring as a rigorous professional practice, committing to my own continuous learning and professional development. I choose to act ethically and courageously, actively approaching and clarifying any situations that may constitute an ethical dilemma. I value individual uniqueness and support collaborative, constructivist action to meet the specific development needs of every sports mind I work with.

Concluding Engagements & Session Cancellations

Parallax Support respects the right of both parties to conclude the mentoring arrangement. I will always provide suitable notice (a minimum of one session) if I need to terminate the engagement. The client may conclude the arrangement without notice; however, if this occurs mid-package, the remaining fee is retained by Parallax Support to cover scheduled time, unless otherwise agreed.

High-performance environments are inherently volatile. Fixtures shift, travel is delayed, and schedules change at the last minute. I understand the reality of the sporting calendar. However, the mentoring space relies on deliberate commitment and mutual respect for time. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I require a minimum of 36 hours' notice. Cancellations made with less than 36 hours' notice, or missed sessions without communication, will be counted as a completed session against your package or charged in full.

In the event of a genuine emergency, we will navigate the rescheduling with common sense and flexibility

If at any point you feel these ethical standards are not being met, I welcome direct feedback so we can immediately address and rectify the issue.
